Poor Relief Records (Scotland)

In times of hardship,
people usually turned to their local parish for financial aid. In 1845, the
Poor Law Amendment Act removed provision of relief from the church and established
Parochial Boards. The Parochial Board records can provide a wealth of information
about the Applicants as well as their family members. At present, there is a
seventy-five year closure period on these records.
