Poor Relief Records (Scotland)

In times of hardship, people usually turned to their local parish for financial aid. In 1845, the Poor Law Amendment Act removed provision of relief from the church and established Parochial Boards. The Parochial Board records can provide a wealth of information about the Applicants as well as their family members. At present, there is a seventy-five year closure period on these records.
